how-to

What is that first thing you do when you install a fresh WordPress setup?

Well, I delete all the default data like Posts, Comments, Pages & Plugins. I never thought of removing “Uncategorized” from Categories, until the day it started to annoy me that all my posts being categorized as “Uncategorized” & I had to manually set it all the time.

As you get regular with your Blogging, you realize the importance of Categories & surely need one as your default but not “Uncategorized” for sure. When you decide to get rid of it by simply deleting it, there is no delete option there.

So, how to delete & update the default category? Follow these 2 simple steps to get rid of it:

STEP 1UPDATE THE DEFAULT POST CATEGORY

Go to Settings > Writing, there’s an option called Default Post Category.  Select your Default Category, in my case it’s Host My Blog. Now, scroll down & Save Changes.

STEP 2: DELETE UNCATEGORIZED

Go to Posts > Categories, hover over Uncategorized, and you’ll notice the Delete option. Go ahead & delete it.

All your posts under “Uncategorized” will be automatically transferred to whatever the new Default Post Category you have selected in Step 1.

Enjoy!

Wow! You are the perfect technical complement to the my creative side of blogging! I need to start learning these things from you 🙂 I like this idea of doing away with the whole ‘uncategorised’ category!
